Men’s soccer advances to indoor soccer provincial championships

After a 1-1-1 record at regionals, the men's soccer team will advance to the indoor provincial championships on Wednesday, March 30th in Toronto. This will be the first provincial appearance for the Cougars. 

When asked about the team's performance at regionals, co-head coach Drew Johnston shared that "the team came together during the February tournament, showing resilience and real character against some very high quality teams. Our players bought into our system which made it difficult for opponents to generate scoring chances." 

The Cougars have taken advantage of the break between the two tournaments, "with a couple of weeks to train and prepare, we're hoping to replicate that form at provincials. Playing against the top teams in the province will require our players to match that caliber, but we are confident in their ability to take the next step to compete with the best in the league" says Johnston. 

Earlier this season, Johnston and Brandon Syms were named OCAA Men's Soccer Central Division Coaches of the Year. The pair have coached the Cougars for two seasons and have been instrumental in developing the men's soccer program. 

Paul Orazietti added "the Athletics Department is very proud of the strides our soccer program has made this year and wish them continued success at Provincials this week."

The Cougars' schedule for the Provincial Championships on Wednesday, March 30th is below.

10:00am vs. George Brown College

1:00pm vs. Durham College

4:00pm vs. Seneca College

The semi-finals and finals will take place on Thursday, March 31st.
