Men's Baseball Grabs Two Wins on the Road

Men's Baseball Grabs Two Wins on the Road

The men's baseball team hit the road this past weekend for four games, including a double-header against the reigning OCAA Champions.

The Cougars opened the weekend by knocking off the previously unbeaten Lambton Lions on their home field. Back-to-back doubles by Aiden Russell and Jordan Ritchie put the Cougars up 3-0 in the top of the first to take control. Jayden Valle led the offensive attack with a double and two singles, while Colin Sirois, Will Nevills, and Marc Chamberlain added singles of their own.

Starting pitcher Matt Forsey was solid for four innings and got an excellent relief performance from Cole Wright. The save was picked up by Gavin Lamming for the 5-3 win.

The Cougars continued to find success in game two of the afternoon, with three runs in the top of the first. Travis Rainey led the offensive attack with a double and a single, while Dylan Rudge, Hayden Russell, and Colin Sirois added singles. Carter Gallivan threw six solid innings and only gave up two hits in the process. Cole Massey entered the game in the seventh for the two-game sweep.

On Sunday, the Cougars faced the defending OCAA champions, the St. Clair Saints, for the back-end doubleheader of the weekend. In what turned out to be a defensive battle, the Cougars stood their ground, with a 0-0 score heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the Saints struck for a pair of runs and held the Cougars off in the seventh inning to grab the 2-0 win.

Despite the loss, Lucas Ingratta went five innings, holding the Saints' offense to only 6 hits. Offensively, Travis Rainey, Dylan Rudge, and Colin Sirois all had singles.

In the final game of the weekend, the Cougars struck early with two runs in the top of the first on a two-run double by Travis Rainey. However, the Saints' offence kicked it into high gear and pulled away before putting the game away with a 4-run 5th inning. Jayden Valle had two singles while Chris Deubel and Liam Nordby added singles of their own in the 12-2 loss.

The Cougars host the Fanshawe Falcons (Sept 30) and Seneca Sting (Oct 1) this weekend as they make a run for the playoffs. Click here for the full schedule.
