Cougars Curling sends 2 teams to the medal round!

Day 2 of OCAA Curling got underway at the YNCU Curling Centre on Friday with four draws. Draw 4 kicked off with all 3 Sault College teams competing.

On the men’s side, Sault College faced off against Humber. Humber managed a single in the opening end, with Sault College responding with a pair in the second end. Humber added 2 points in each of the fourth & fifth ends before a triple by Sault College tied things up at 5. Humber would finish with 5 points in the seventh end, and a 10-5 victory.

On the mixed doubles side, Sault2 faced off against Fleming2. Sault2 managed a single point in the opening end, but Fleming2 would take over the match from there, only surrendering a pair of points en route to a 7-3 win.

Sault1 looked to stay perfect as they started their opening match against Humber with a single point in the first end. Humber managed to score 2 in the second and stole a single in the third and fourth ends before cruising to a 7-3 victory.

In Draw 5, only one Cougars teams was competing with Sault2 facing off against Mohawk, with the Mountaineers grabbing a point in each of the first three ends. Sault2 responded with a single of their own in the fourth end. Both teams swapped 3 point ends in the fifth and sixth before Sault2 managed 4 points over the final 2 ends to secure an 8-6 victory.

Both mixed doubles teams were on the ice for Draw 6, with Sault2 entering must win territory for a chance to advance. 

Sault1 and Fleming2 battled hard, with Fleming2 picking up a single in each of the opening two ends. Sault1 would begin to take control of the match with a single in end three, and 2 points in each of ends four, five and six. Sault1 earned 1 more point in the seventh before cruising to an 8-2 victory.

Sault2 and Fanshawe had a high stakes game with each team battling to stay alive. Sault2 would take a single point in each of the first two ends. Fanshawe would manage a single in the fourth end to cut the deficit to 4-1. Sault2 continued how it started and won their game 7-2.

The final draw of the day saw the men's team and Sault1 finish off their round robin schedule. 

On the Men’s side of things, Sault College faced off against Fanshawe. Sault College earned a single point in each of the first two ends before stealing 2 in the third end. Sault College ended up winning 8-0.

Sault1 would take on Fleming1 in their final round robin match. Sault1 got up 4-1 after the first four ends, before a 4 point fifth end put them safely in front. Sault1 would go on to win 11-1.

Cougar's Men's curling advanced to the semifinal round, along with mixed doubles team Sault1. The semifinals go at 9:00AM with bronze medals games at 1:00PM & the gold medal games at 5:00PM. You can catch all the action at the YNCU Curling Centre!
