Sault College Cougars Curling Ready to Rock at Nationals!

Sault College Cougars Curling Ready to Rock at Nationals!

The Sault College Men’s Curling team will be travelling to Fredricton, NB next week to participate in the CCAA Curling National Championships. The team earned their way into the competition through their 3rd place finish at the OCAA Provincial Championships. The Cougars team led by Skip Connor Simms, and Vice-Skip Jacob Reid will face off against top competition from across the country.

The Cougars Curling kicked off the 2024 year at the Mohawk Invitational at the Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club. The Men’s team managed to play their way to a 2-1 record, picking up wins over Humber & Fanshawe, while falling to defending Provincial champions Mohawk college. Reflecting on the team’s performance earlier in the year, head coach Jeff Masters feels the team is in position to be successful heading into the national championships ‘The team has gone through several lineup changes this season. It now looks like the team is ready to capitalize on the skill sets that each player possesses and continue improving.’

The Cougars qualified for the national championship with a bronze medal finish last month as they hosted the OCAA Provincial championships. The Cougars defeated Fanshawe in the 3rd place game and are looking to build on their experiences last year at nationals. ‘We want the team to improve on their performance at last year's national championship. We have players with the skills that can accomplish that goal, we just need to get everyone playing at their best’ added Masters, ‘We have a strong team comprised of veterans and rookies. The veterans will need to lead the team during the grind of a national championship.’

Sault College will get the action underway on March 12th at 9:00PM against Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Trojans. The full schedule can be found online at 2024 CCAA/CURLING CANADA COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS |
