November 16 & 17, 2018 – Sault College Cougars Compete against Oakland University Grizzlies at Detroit Skating Club.

Cougars clinch game one of the weekend (5-2)

After the second consecutive week ranked at #2 in the North Region of D3 ACHA, the Cougars travelled to the Detroit Skating Centre to face off against the Grizzlies, who are the #6 ranked team.

The Cougars had a strong start to the game with goals from Mark Tassone and Jason Uhl within the first 4 minutes of the game.  The Grizzlies finished the period off with a goal from Eric Woolf at the 1:47 mark.  The shots during the first period were 12-11 for the Cougars.

The second period continued with some great scoring chances by both teams which only resulted in one goal from the Cougar's captain Ryan Vendramin at the 8:33 mark putting the cougars back to a 2 goal lead.  Shots during the second period were 17-12 in favour of the Cougars.

At the 12:56 mark of the third period Nathan Curley of the Cougars secured their 4th goal of the game.  9 minutes into the period the period, the Cougars received 2 consecutive penalties for tripping and boarding which put them in a 5 on 3 penalty kill.  Austin Rowe was able to rush in for a short-handed goal to put them up 5-1.  Eric Woolf from the Grizzlies managed to add 1 more goal for the Grizzlies with 4:57 left in the game.  The shots during the third period were 12-7 for the Cougars.

Cougars hold on to win 6-5 in overtime in game 2

The Grizzlies struck first with a goal by Joe Graham in the first 17 seconds of the game.  The Cougars came at the Grizzlies hard by scoring 5 consecutive goals from Max Khull, Jake Lewis (2), Andrew Barbeau and Steven Khull.  Both teams were given power play opportunities but only Andrew Barbeau was able to capitalize with a goal. The shots during the first period were 22-7 for the Cougars.

The second period continued with some great scoring chances by both teams which resulted in another period of one sided scoring.  The Grizzlies came on strong with 4 additional goals from Lance Henry, Joe Graham, Cale Denison and Nicholas Goettel to tie the game at 5 at the end of the second. Shots during the second period were 19-15 in favour of the Cougars.

Grizzlies goalie Austin McArdie from Macomb Michigan stopped 23 shots from the Cougars as they tried to regain the lead they held in the first period.  The Grizzlies managed 7 shots on Drew Gregory in the third period to end regulation time in a 5-5 tie.  The shots during the third period were 23-7 for the Cougars.

Ryan Vendramin, Captain of the Cougars was able to score the game winner with a pass out front from Mark Tassone.  The shots on goal during the overtime period were 7-2 in favour of the Cougars.
