Bio

Zoltan "Toots" Kovacs was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. He played in the Ontario Hockey League from 1976 to 1979 for both the Soo Greyhounds and the Windsor Spitfires. Toots was fortunate to be teammates with Craig Hartsburg, Wayne Gretzky, Ted Nolan and Brian Gualazzi in his OHL career. He also played for the Soo Thunderbirds and attended St. Thomas University in Fredericton New Brunswick, where he played in the Atlantic University Athletics Association.

Following many years of coaching of minor hockey, Toots began coaching at the Junior and OHL level. He was the head coach of the Soo Thunderbirds from 2003-2006, an assistant coach with Soo Greyhounds from 2006-2008, and then returned back to the Soo Thunderbirds as an assistant coach from 2011-2019. Toots has been a memeber of the Sault College men's hockey coaching staff since 2020.
