Cougars Victorious in Exhibition Match

Cougars Victorious in Exhibition Match

On Saturday November 17th at the Community First Peewee Arena, the Women's Hockey team played an exhibition match against a big league team from the Woman's Hockey League (WHL). The women took to the ice at 10:00pm, early in the first you can quickly see that the teams where evenly matched as both teams struggled to grab control of the game. The WHL team had a great opportunity to open up the scoring in the first period, but Jenny King made an outstanding save to keep the Cougars even midway through the first. The Cougars rallied behind their net minor as Jaedyn Orr opened up the scoring, assisted by Chelsea Dokis and Taylor Nadeau. The girls continued to play well, and kept the opponents of the scoreboard through the end of the first.

Nearing the end of the second period the WHL evened the scoring tying the game 1 – 1. The girls were able to keep the pressure up and before the period was through Megan Turcotte was able to find the back of the net for the Cougars, the goal was assisted by Mackenzie Nadeau, and Britney Zack.

With only 12 minutes to go the girls continued to play well to hold of the pressing WHL team. The girls took their foot off the gas for a minute were the WHL team took advantage and scored. With the game tied the girls increased the pace of the game, this lead to a breakaway for Kaitlyn Lambert-Mousseau who looked to bury the puck, but the WHL goalie made a diving save to keep the score even. This didn't discourage the Cougars as they had more attempts in the third; eventually Jaedyn Orr was able to find the back of the net, Chelsea Dokis and Bailey Meawasige assisted on the game winning goal.

The Cougars took the win over the big league team form the WHL 3 – 2. They women are back in action next week starting Sunday Nov 25th as they play in the silver creek tournament. After that the girls take to the road to take on Michigan State University December 8th & 9th.
