Cougars knock off Chicago twice

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

GAME 1: SAULT COUGARS vs CHICAGO LOYOLA RAMBLERS

CHICAGO, Ill – The Sault College Women's ACHA Division II hockey team rolled into Chicago this weekend looking to improve on their 2-3 record in the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association league play.

The Cougars dominated Loyola University in game one with a 9-1 win that saw seven different goal scorers. Rachel Barban and Mispon Martin both scored twice while Jaedyn Orr, Kaitlyn Lambert-Mousseau, Myla AngusJulia Bellrose, and Mackenzie Monico knotted one each. The Cougars were able to plaster 45 shots on goal against the Ramblers in Chicago. Jenny King would back stop the Cougars in the game one win facing 23 shots and turning away 22.

Cougars Scoring: Rachel Barban (2G 1A), Myla Angus (1G 2A), Mispon Martin (2G), Hannah Leask (2A), Jaedyn Orr (1G 1A), Mackenzie Monico (1G), Kaitlyn Lambert-Mousseau (1G), Julia Bellrose (1G), Chelsea Dokis (1A).

 

GAME 2: SAULT COUGARS vs CHICAGO LOYOLA RAMBLERS

CHICAGO, Ill – Game two was much more of a physical affair with Loyola looking to respond to their earlier defeat. Chicago would get out to the first lead, answered quickly by the Cougar's Mispon Martin ending the 1st at 1-1. Martin would strike again in the 3rd to take the lead before Chicago would tie it up before the end of the period.

The game ended tied at two after regulation and required overtime to settle the affair. The Cougar's Mispon Martin broke through yet again, scoring the overtime winner and netting a hat trick for herself in the game. Martin's OT goal capped off a good weekend and sent the Cougars home with a 2-win road trip. Janelle Manitowabi was in net for the Cougars win and faced 28 shots.

The weekend sweep moves the Cougars to a 4-3 record in CCWHA league play.
