Weekend Recap (Feb. 22nd - Feb. 23rd)

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

GAME 1: SAULT COUGARS vs LAKEHEAD THUNDERWOLVES

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Women played in their final regular season games over the weekend, hosting the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Rankin Arena. The Thunderwolves would strike first in game one on a goal by Cassandra Carangi not long after puck drop. Rachel Barban would answer back for the Cougars on an assist from Mispon Martin. Before the period was up Lakehead added two more to put themselves up 3-1 after the first period.

The Lakehead offense proved to be too much in the second period as Kalie Verheyen would score 3 goals and Victoria Darosa would score two. Darosa would go on to register 6 points for the Thunderwolves as they would take game one 11-1. Despite the loss Katrina Simon had 35 saves.

Cougars Scoring: Rachel Barban (1G), Mispon Martin (1A).

GAME 2: SAULT COUGARS vs LAKEHEAD THUNDERWOLVES

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Cougars were back at it again Sunday as they tried to avenge their loss to the Thunderwolves the night before. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the result would be similar as the Lakehead offence came to life yet again in game two. The Thunderwolves would register 68 shots on Cougars goalie Katrina Simon who did her best to keep them at bay, but in the end Lakehead would skate away from the Rankin with a 14-0 win.
