Bruins Maul Cougars Twice

GAME 1: SAULT COUGARS vs SHERIDAN BRUINS

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Cougars were back in action playing the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday night pushing hard for a win. It was a slow start out of the gate for the Cougars as Sheridan would come out firing and getting up to a 13-3 lead from the jump thanks to some sharpshooting from Romar Subban in the form of a couple three points shots. The Cougars would fight back at the five-minute mark of the 1st quarter with four of five starters contributing on the scoreboard and Kevon Clarke and Jaylyne Moore-Tucker pulling in 9 rebounds in the frame. Despite the good five-minute stretch the Cougars would find themselves down 20-16 at the end of the quarter.

The Cougars kept their first quarter pace up in the second with Stephen Miller leading the charge filling the bucket with 8 points and adding 3 assists. Despite that pace the Bruins would go on to shoot 50% from the field in the quarter including 26 points from the starting line up to go up 56-36 at the half.

The Cougars came out in the 3rd quarter ready to play with another efficient frame from the starters. As was the case for a majority of the evening the Bruins were led by their dynamic duo of Romar Subban and Nick Campbell, and they would keep the frame even with 21 points apiece, maintaining their 20-point lead.

The Bruins bench would take over in the final frame and not look back as Sheridan would outscore the Sault 23-14 to solidify the victory and take game one.

Cougars Scoring: Stephen Miller (14 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds), Tristen Kamal (14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks), Kevon Clarke (8 points, 20 rebounds, 2 blocks).

GAME 2: SAULT COUGARS vs SHERIDAN BRUINS

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Cougars came out ready to play right from the jump in game two. The two teams traded baskets with Romar Subban and Nick Miller doing most of the damage for Sheridan and Jaylyne Moore-Tucker, Kevon Clarke, and Tristen Kamal shouldering the load for the Cougars. They would fight to a 12-12 draw half way through the 1st quarter, but the Bruins would pick up the pace and go on a run to find themselves up 23-14 at the end of the quarter.

After the push from Sheridan at the end of the 1st, the Cougars answered with a push of their own to begin the 2nd. The starters would step up their game in the quarter with Simon Wal adding 5 points and Stephen Miller stepping up again with 5 points in 10 solid minutes of work. The Cougars would outscore the Bruins 22-20 in the frame to go into the half down 43-36.

The 3rd quarter was another closely contested 10 minutes. Simon Wal upped his 2nd quarter performance with an additional 11 points and Stephen Miller scored another 5 to keep the Cougars within striking distance still down 71-61.

Only down 10 points in the final frame the Bruins stepped on that gas and wouldn't look back shooting 53% from the field for 30 points in the final ten minutes to take the game with a final of 101-74.

Cougars Scoring: Jaylyne Moore-Tucker (24 points, 12 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block), Simon Wal (16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Stephen Miller (10 points, 10 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 block).
