Cougars fall to the Eagles

On Novemeber 3rd & 4th the Cougars took on the UTM Eagles in OCAA WBB action. Saturday's contest saw the Cougars get off to a slow start lossing the first quarter 20 - 2 with Emma Fillion scoring the only basket for the girls. This explosive start for the Eagles saw them soar to an impressive lead 50 - 12 by half time despite a valient effort put forward by Cassidy Sabourin. In the second half the Cougars showed that they can play with the Eagles with outstanding efforts from Mercedes Ryan and Cassidy Sabourin, however the lead from the first half was to large to overcome, after the final horn the score saw the Cougars fall to the Eagles 85 - 39.

The team was bounced back on Sunday where Mercedes Ryan play a great game with contributions from her teammates, Kayley Hannusch, Emma Filion, and Cassidy Sabourin. All four of these players score double digit points for the Cougars. In the first quarter the Cougars came to play exploding to a 19 -13 lead over the Eagles. In the second the Eagles  soared back to bring the score 31 - 34 at  halftime for the Cougars. In the second half the game became a power struggle between both teams, with the lead changing several times, the Cougars were in striking distance of the Eagles, who lead, in the final 2 minutes of the game. However with a missed layup and a turnover within the final 30 seconds, the Eagles beat the Cougars ending the game with a 67- 60 victory.

The team showed an excellent performance this weekend taking on the undefeated Eagles. The Women's team is back in action this weekend as they travel to Lambton College to take on the Lions November 10th & 11th. You can catch all OCAA games on the OCAA website.
