Knights Surpass the Cougars

On November 24th 2018, the women's Cougar basketball team took to the court to challenge the Niagara Knights; the girls looked to build on their previous hard fought weekend. The Cougars started the game off strong scoring the first 4 points of the game, after the girls were had a lapse in play while the knights were able to sway the first quarter into their favor ending the quarter 17 – 10. The game was comprised of runs from both teams, as in the second quarter the girls were able to maintain the momentum and end the first half with a lead of 26 – 25. Niagara went on a 10 – 0 run to start the third quarter which swung the momentum to their side. However the girls were able to respond with 4 quick points to end their run, from this point onwards the two teams traded points, allowing the Knights to maintain their lead to the end of the game, with a final score of 64 – 47. During this game Cassidy Sabourin was able to contribute 14 points and grab 8 rebounds for the Cougars.

After their defeat the first day the girls were facing the Knights for a rematch, the game started almost identical to the previous game with the first quarter ending in a 17 – 10 lead for the Knights. This is where the game ceased to being the same as Saturdays; the game went back and forth which saw the Cougars trail by 14 at halftime. The girls were not able unable to make any ground on the Knights as both teams continued to trade baskets. This saw the Cougars eventually fall to the Knights 73 – 51, again Cassidy Sabourin played well scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds in the Cougars defeat.

Cassidy's performances over the weekend lead to her being named one of the athletes of the week. You can catch Cassidy and the rest of the women's team back in action second semester as they take on Mohawk January 18th & 19th 2019.
