Cougars gave the Hawks a run for their Money

February 2nd 2019 Sault College Cougars vs. Humber Hawks

The Humber Hawks came to town this past weekend, February 2nd at 6:00pm the women took to the court. The highly rated Hawks came in thinking that they had two easy wins against the Cougars who had a record of 0-14. Humber started off the game strong scoring seven unanswered points, this didn't break the Cougars as they came roaring back ending the quarter 16 -17. Early on in the second quarter the Cougars took the lead for the first time, which the Hawks did not like soaring back to take a 3 point lead at the end of the half. The third quarter saw both teams play an equal game both scoring 16 points, still only down three points the girls were trading baskets, eventually the Cougars got into foul trouble which gave the Hawks their opening as they went on a 10 – 0 run putting the game out of reach for the Cougars.

The following day saw the Cougars have a rematch against the same Humber Hawks.  The Cougars who were exhausted after previous days amazing performance, kept the game close in the first quarter going down 19 – 11. The Hawks who did not take the Cougars lightly this game stepped up the pace which saw the exhausted Cougars fall behind and not be able to catch back up.

Mercedes Ryan had an amazing weekend, scoring 15 points, grabbing 27 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Her performance over the weekend gave the girls a chance at upsetting the Hawks. The women's team travels to Kitchener this weekend to take on the Conestoga Condors.
