Bruins Walk Away With Two Wins Against Cougars

Bruins Walk Away With Two Wins Against Cougars

GAME 1: SAULT COUGARS vs SHERIDAN BRUINS

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Cougars were looking to improve upon their performance from last weekend's game against Redeemer, this time taking on the Sheridan Bruins. The Bruins came out to a solid start holding the Cougars offence to just 5 points in the quarter while scoring 17 of their own. Skylar Toms and Andrea Gorman added the points for the Cougars in the frame.

The Sheridan defense would continue to stifle the Cougar offence for the remainder of the game, and the Bruins would continue to knock down most of their shots to end the game with a 90-14 win in the first game of the weekend series.

Cougars Scoring: Skylar Toms (6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal), Andrea Gorman (5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal), Clara Yanchuk (3 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal).

GAME 2: SAULT COUGARS vs SHERIDAN BRUINS

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Cougars were looking to put a tough loss behind them in game two, which is exactly what they did. They kept pace with the Bruins for the 1st quarter with the starting lineup spreading the ball around effectively in the frame with every starter contributing. The Cougars would end the quarter down 18-15 and holding the Sheridan offence in check.

The 2nd quarter had the Bruins offence crack the Cougars defense with Laura Jarekas and Ashley McDonald doing most of the damage for Sheridan. Skylar Toms led the Cougars scoring in the 2nd quarter with 4 points followed closely by 3 points from Jayme Meser. After the dust settled in the 2nd they would find themselves down 37-25.

The Cougars tried to lock down defensively but could not contain Laura Jarekas (9 points) and Jaedyn Dunkley (11 points) in the quarter. Taylor Elliott would be a big defensive presence with 4 rebounds and a steal but the Cougars could only muster 8 points and were still down 59-33.

The Cougars offence woke up in the final quarter with a big 11 points from Skylar Toms and a 3 point shot by Taylor Elliott. Emma Fillion and Taylor Elliott had 3 rebounds apiece but it was too late for a comeback as the Bruins would walk away from Sault College with a 77-49 win.

Cougars Scoring: Skylar Toms (21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 1 block), Taylor Elliott (11 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals), Jayme Meser (6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals).
