Men's Baseball makes first signing for 2025!
Sault Coller Cougars baseball has been hard at work prepping for next season and is excited to announce their first signing for the 2025-26 season, Matt Schrie. The 6’0, 230lb Catcher comes from Sarnia, ON. Schrie recently completed his senior high school baseball season with Northern Vikings falling in the LKSSAA championship game, the only blemish on an otherwise perfect season. Schrie plays summer baseball competitively with Michigan East Coast travel baseball.
Cougars head Coach Mike Lebel was eager at the opportunity to add a player of Matt’s caliber to the roster, “Matt is a power-hitting right-hand catcher who we hope will solidify the middle of our lineup and defence.” Schrie will primarily catch from behind home plate but brings an added layer of versatility to the program, “He also plays corner infield and can pitch. His versatility will be a big asset to us going forward,” added Lebel.
Schrie brings a heavy bat to the lineup with high-level defence upside offering a POP time of just over 2.05. seconds. He has the potential to grow into a leader for the Cougars program both on and off the field.
Baseball wasn’t the only thing that helped Schrie make his decision, “I decided to come to Sault College because of the amount of land the college has, wildlife is something I love to have a program as renowned as the one at the College made the decision easy.” Family, friends, and coaches gave Matt the space to decide without any pressure as he is “Looking forward to being a part of a championship team and continuing to build the program at Sault College.”
The Cougars will enter their fourth OCAA baseball season in 2025 and are looking to build on their previous three seasons as they set their sights on the playoffs next season.
