Sault College drops back-to-back versus Lindenwood
In a rematch from Saturday night, the Cougars would turn to Trennis Riley to get the start opposite of Justin Grenon for the Lions. The first period saw a motivated Lions team looking to make a statement on why they are the number 1 team in the region. With the Cougars killing a 5-on-3 early, the Lions were able to strike first at the 8:25 mark. The Cougars would take another penalty shortly after sending the Lions' potent powerplay back to work and they again would make no mistake extending the lead to 2-0. Riley would be equal to the task going forward, turning aside 17 shots in the opening period as the Cougars entered the first intermission trailing 2-0.
A much tighter second period saw teams trade chances and a powerplay on each side but both goalies stood tall for their teams. Trennis Riley would turn away all 13 shots he faced in the frame, while the Lions goaltender would stop all 10, setting up a decisive third period.
As the third period got underway with 4 on 4 hockey, the Cougars would take a 5-minute penalty and sent to Lions back to the man advantage. The lions would make no mistake with the extra attacker extending their lead to 3-0. The lions would add another goal on the extended man advantage, pushing their lead to 4. Sault College would continue a march to the penalty box, and the Lions would continue to capitalize adding two more powerplay goals en route to a 6-0 victory over the Cougars. Trennis Riley would record 43 saves in the loss for the Cougars.
Sault College is back in action next weekend when they travel to Adrian, MI to face off against the Adrian Bulldogs on December 14th & 15th. This will be their last series before winter break.
