Women's Volleyball Opens Season at Home
The Sault College Women's Volleyball team opened their 2025–26 OCAA season in front of a home crowd this past weekend, hosting the Niagara Knights for a two-match series at the Sault College Health and Wellness Centre Gymnasium.
In game one, the Cougars were caught off guard by the Knights, who had steady offensive pressure to defeat the Cougars in straight sets by scores of 25 to 21, 25 to 18, and 25 to 11. Avery Baxter paced the Cougars offence with four points, while Darby Sewell, Payton Baker, Addie Tremblay, and Jessica Sibenik each added three. Despite the loss, the Cougars showed positive stretches of composure and teamwork early in the match.
The Cougars came out hard in game two and started off with a hard-fought 25 to 22 victory in the opening set. However, Niagara found their rhythm and rallied back to take the next three sets by scores of 25 to 17, 25 to 17, and 25 to 23, securing the weekend sweep.
Sault College showed significant improvement from the opening match, with Sewell and Tremblay leading the way offensively with 10 points each. Taryn Greco added nine points in a strong performance, while Liz Gavey, Baxter and Baker provided steady contributions throughout the lineup.
Next up the Cougars will hit the road for back-to-back matches against the Humber Hawks on November 1 (6pm) and November 2 (1pm).
